Privacy Statement 

Children of Latin America 
(registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales – number 1111335) 

The charity itself. 

We are a charity which is dedicated to alleviating the suffering of some of the poorest and most disadvantaged children in Latin America. It was founded in 2004 by the British veteran charity campaigner, Ray Perrin, who continues to act as its Chairman and one of its trustees. Through its fundraising activities involving various events, the charity seeks to support projects linked to children throughout Latin America. 

This Privacy Statement.  

We are required by the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) to communicate this Privacy Statement to you, which gives details as to the ways in which we ‘process’  ‘Personal Data’ ie information which you give us, or which is provided by third parties, whether digitally (eg by email or online), or by letter or other correspondence. 

You will be informed of any future changes to the Statement either by email or on the charity website (www.childrenoflatinamerica.co.uk).  

What is meant by ‘Personal Data’? 

This is information which can be used to identify an individual such as yourself.  

Examples are your name, email address, postal address, telephone number, family information, bank account details, credit or debit card details, birth date, and so on.  

There are various situations in which we collect Personal Data from you, for example, if you make a monetary or other donation or if you provide us with personal details when you offer your services to us as a volunteer, and so on. 

The  ways in which we ‘process’ (or might ‘process’) your Personal Data, and why we do so. 

We ‘process’ your Personal Data whenever we collect and use it.  

We collect your Personal Data from our website, emails, mail and telephone when you request information regarding our fundraising events, or contact us about becoming a volunteer or patron, or wish to know how to make a donation, and so on. 

We use your Personal Data for various purposes, such as : 

If you volunteer to help the charity, our legal duty of prudence as a charity will require us to request personal information from you to assess your suitability for that role 

It you request information from us, for example via our website or leaflets, we will have to use your personal information  to communicate it to you 

Where you have expressly consented to our doing so, we may contact you via email, telephone or text messages, with information regarding our activities and events or to invite you to assist in the running of them 

We may contact you for other purposes which you expressly consent to. 

Please note : 

We will not disclose your Personal Data to third parties unless we are required to do so by law 

If it is necessary for you to pay  money to us (for example for a ticket for our annual dinner), we will not take your credit or debit card details as we do not possess the technology  to process such payments. 

Persons aged 17 and under. 

We do not knowingly collect or request personal information from anyone aged 17 or under. If you are aged 17 or under, please get the permission of your parent or guardian before using our website. 

Data Retention  

To comply with the Data Protection legislation, we shall not retain Personal Data for longer than we need it, and we will take all reasonable steps to erase from our records all data which is no longer required. 

Data Accuracy 

We will seek to ensure that any Personal Data is accurate and up to date. 

Security to protect Personal Data 

For areas of our website which collect Personal Data, we use a secure server. 

Individual Rights 

Under the Data Protection legislation, you have the following rights in respect of the Personal Data which we hold and process about you : 

To request a copy of your Personal Data which we hold 

To have your Personal Data erased from our systems 

To have inaccurate data corrected 

To complain about the way in which your Personal Data is being used 

To ask that we no longer use your Personal Data for marketing purposes 

To withdraw at any time your (previously given) consent to the processing of your Personal Data.
